Illicit poppy plants destroyed in Senapati

Narcotics & Affairs of Border (NAB), Manipur under the supervision of SP/NAB in co-ordination with NCB, Imphal Sub-Zone and Senapati District Police conducted a special operation during which illicit poppy cultivations in Somphung, Nepali Isle and Denglen areas of Molkon hill range under Saikul Police Station, Senapati district were destroyed on February 12. According to a statement issued by SP/NAB, Manipur cum PRO, Police Department, during the operation, 105 acres of poppy cultivated areas containing more than 1 crore poppy plants were destroyed and the operation resulted in destruction of poppy plants before their harvesting thereby preventing extraction of large quantity of opium which can be later processed to convert into heroin, a narcotic drug under ND & PS Act, 1985. In this regard, three separate cases have been registered at NAB/PS for investigation, the statement informed.
