NRDW awareness week observed at Chandel

District Water and Sanitation Committee, Chandel District in association with the Christian Social Development Orgranisation (CSDO) Chandel organized a day-long District Level Workshop in connection with observance of "National Rural Drinking Water Awareness Week" at DRDA Training Hall, DC Office Complex, Chandel yesterday.
Th.Chittaranjan Singh, DC Chandel graced the programme as Chief Guest; L Ibomcha Singh, Superintendent Engineer, R-1 PHED, Manipur graced as Functional President while Dr.Kesho Singh Moirangthem, District Malaria Officer and S Dhana Singh, Range Officer, District Forest Office Chandel as Guests of Honour cum resource persons respectively.
Delivering the key note address, Executive Engineer PHED Chandel, A.Nikunja Singh, who is also the member Secretary of District Water and Sanitation Committee, Chandel District, highlighted the Overview of National Rural Drinking Water Awareness Week and the Role of Village Water and Sanitation Committee in Water Supply Management.
Speaking as Chief Guest of the programme, Deputy Commissioner of Chandel Th Chittaranjan Singh, IAS, who is also the Chairman of District Water and Sanitation Committee Chandel District said that Water is one of the basic needs of human being.
And all the human civilizations started by the bank of a river and this shows that Water is required for existence of human being.
However, now-a-days, it is a big source of illness and diseases due to contamination of water.
Therefore, ensuring safe drinking water is necessary for a healthy living, he added.
He further said that, without the active participation of the general public, Government alone cannot successfully implement all the developmental schemes.
So, the general public and all the stakeholders of the Government should co-operate the Government while implementing developmental schemes.
In his presidential address, Superintendent Engineer Rural-1, PHED, Manipur, L Ibomcha Singh presented a power point on the revised guidelines of National Rural Drinking Water programs 2013. In the technical session, Resource Persons Dr.Kesho Singh Moirangthem, District Malaria Officer Chandel and Dhana Singh, Range Officer, District Forest Office Chandel, spoke on issues related to health aspects of water and sanitary related diseases and the importance of Forest Conservation in relation with water conservation respectively.
The workshop which was organized as preparation and for briefing of priorities of National Rural Drinking water Awareness Week, a country wide awareness drive, also discussed suggested action points and adopted recommendations.
As part of its recommendations, essay writing on the topic 'Importance of safe drinking water and value of sanitation' would be held across the district in five centres i.e., district head quarters Chandel, Chakpikarong, Pallel and Moreh on February 18 at 11 am.
The programme was also attended by Village Chiefs, District Level Officers, representatives from NGOs, Civil Organizations of the District among others.
