ZUF on new mission to save ecology

The Zeliangrong United Front (ZUF) has taken up measures to save the ecology in the Zeliangrong region.
ZUF information secretary A Dangmei said the attempt to maintain the ecological balance by preserving and protecting the rich fauna and flora of the region the outfit seeks the co-operation of the people.
It appealed all to desist from reckless felling of trees and hunting of rare species of birds and animals.
"The jhum cultivation practicing since time immemorial has done enough damages which greatly affect our eco-system.
However, this old practice of jhum cultivation cannot be avoided in the absent of other supplementary forms of farming especially in the hilly region but rampant and unnecessary cutting of trees must be avoided," A Dangmei urged.
The ZUF leader then said the outfit strictly prohibits random burning of forests to avoid the wholesome damage of forest.
The ZUF also prohibits use of generators or batteries and chemicals for fishing in the streams, brooks and rivers which may lead to mass destruction of aquatic creatures.
"It is our collective responsibility to protect and preserve the invaluable asset of Zeliangrong territory from fast eroding of our natural resources," A Dangmei added.
"It is therefore, directed to all the village authority chairmen and secretaries of the region to be well informed and to adhere to the prohibition directives to avoid unwanted initiatives being taken against the defaulters," A Dangmei warns.
The Zeliangrong United Front (ZUF) then said it opposes the the sale of land or forest or immovable standing property to non-Zeliangrong people and failing to abide this directive shall be seriously dealt.
The ZUF then said blockades or bandhs should not be used cheaply as they had done severe detrimental effect to the socio-economy of the people.
