Imphal, August 19 2025:
Manipur Drivers' Association (MDA) has announced resumption of vehicular movement along the Imphal-Dimapur Road via the by-pass near Phesama village in Nagaland, which was earlier damaged by heavy landslides on May 31 .
Earlier, movement of heavy vehicles was put on hold after damage to the same by-pass due to continuous rainfall.
However, with dedicated efforts by the MDA, repair work has been completed, and the route reopened for vehicular movement.
Speaking to media persons at its Kwakeithel office on Tuesday, secretary Sanjay Kshetrimayum informed that MDA had taken the lead in constructing an alternative route from Chakabama to Kidima, connecting Mao, after a massive landslide blocked the Imphal-Dimapur Road at Phesama.
This alternate route played a vital role in transporting essential goods into Manipur.
However, recent heavy rainfall damaged several portions of the road, prompting temporary closure for repairing.
The restoration work was carried out jointly by MDA, Senapati District Truck Owners' Association, Senapati District Truck Drivers' Union, and Manipur Gorkha Motor Workers Welfare Association, under the guidance of the North East Federation of Road Trade Union.
With the repair work now complete, the road has been reopened to traffic, he added.
The association urged not to hike prices of essential items taking undue advantage of the road situation.
Efforts are ongoing to ensure the steady transportation of essential goods into the state, he maintained, while appealing to authorities concerned to closely monitor and take action against those found overcharging.
