Imphal, June 19 2025:
A one-day free medical camp was organised by Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) Doctor Cell in association with the Directorate of Health Services, office of Imphal East chief medical officer and Yaiskul Block Congress Committee at the Young Voluntary Organisation community hall, Wangkhei Puja Lampak on Thursday.
The camp was conducted to prevent spread of diseases in the aftermath of the recent floods in Imphal East, particularly in the Wangkhei area.
Residents of Wangkhei and surrounding localities thronged the camp and availed free medical care.
Speaking at the event, MPCC president MLA K Meghachandra contended that the recent flood crisis in the state, which caused severe hardships to the people, was a result of the government's negligence.
He held the Water Resources Department responsible, saying it was a major lapse on their part.
The government and its departments failed to take timely preventive measures ahead of the monsoon season, which led to the flood situation, he maintained.
Meghachandra opined that had the government properly maintained the dams, ring bunds and riverbeds, the floods could have been averted.
He also cited media reports stating that the Dolaithabi Dam was not repaired in time and that the Ithai barrage was not opened when necessary, which further worsened the situation.
Meghachandra also criticised the government's response to the crisis, saying that the relief measures for flood-affected victims have been unsatisfactory.
With the state already facing an economic downslide, the people have been severely impacted, he said, urging the government to release compensation to the flood victims at the earliest.
On the other hand, Manipur Pradesh Youth Congress Committee, under the aegis of the MPCC, organised a blood donation camp at the RIMS Blood Bank on Thursday to mark the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi.
A total of 30 members of the Youth Congress Committee donated blood during the camp.
