Former minister T Mangibabu passes away

Former minister Tongbram Mangibabu passed away at Shija Hospitals & Research Institute due to a health condition.
He was admitted to the private hospital few days back and breathed his last on Wednesday around 5.30 am at the hospital.
Mangibabu was born in 1948 at Thanga Moirang Khunou Mamang Sabal to Tongbram Bira.
His wife had passed away this year and he is survived by two sons and three daughters.
He got elected to the 6th Manipur Legislative Assembly for the first time in 1995 from Thanga assembly constituency as a candidate of Janata Dal.
He left Janata Dal and joined Congress in 1996 and held the post of deputy chairman of State Planning Board.
He became the minister of art and culture, and cooperation in 1997 .
He got re-elected in 2007 and 2012 and held the position of PDA chairman.
He also held several key posts in the Congress party.
His mortal remains were brought to Congress Bhawan where a memorial service was organised to pay last respect by the party leaders and workers.
CLP leader and former chief minister O Ibobi, MPCC president MLA K Meghachandra, former deputy chief minister Gaikhangam, former minister I Hemochandra, Congress MLAs, leaders and workers attended the memorial service and paid floral tributes to the departed soul.
From there, his body was taken to his home village in Thanga Moirang Khunou Mamang Sabal, where the last rites were performed.
Speaking at the memorial service held at Congress Bhawan, Ibobi remembered Mangibabu as a dedicated leader, who contributed his best in bringing development in the state.
He worked hard to strengthen the Congress party, Ibobi said, while terming the de mise of Mangibabu as a great loss for the society, and shared the pain and grief of the bereaved family.
Meanwhile, Thanga MLA and MSPCL chairman Tongbram Robindro has condoled the demise of the former minister.
In a message, the MLA said that Mangibabu was not just a former MLA of Thanga AC but also a dear relative, brother to him in every sense of the word.
The void left by his absence is immeasurable as his unwavering dedication to the community and his remarkable contributions to Thanga, as well as his impactful presence in Manipur's political landscape, will forever remain echo in the hearts of many, Robindro said.
While praying for the departed soul to rest in peace, he also shared the pain and sorrow of the bereaved family.
Mangibabu was imprisoned twice in Imphal Jail in 1968 and 1969 in connection with the Statehood demand movement launched by the erstwhile Socialist Party.
Manipur got statehood under the Indian Union in 1972 .
