BSF martyr's kin appointed ASI in civil police

Imphal, July 11 2025: The Governor-in-Council, in its sitting held on Friday approved the appointment of Chingakham Naoba Singh, brother of BSF martyr Deepak Chingakham, to the post of assistant sub-inspector (civil police) under the Home Department.

A release issued by commissioner-cum-secretary (Home) N Ashok Kumar said that the appointment of Naoba has been made on humanitarian and exceptional grounds in recognition of the supreme sacrifice made by his elder brother, constable (CT) Deepak Chingakham of the Border Security Force (BSF), who laid down his life during "Operation Sindoor".

Deepak Chingakham (25 years), son of Chingakham Bonbihari of Yairipok Yambem Mathak Leikai, Imphal East district, was serving with the 7th Battalion BSF, when he sustained fatal injuries during unprovoked cross-border firing by Pakistani forces in the RS Pura Sector of Jammu & Kashmir on May 10, 2025.He succumbed to the injuries on May 11.The Governor-in-Council, had in its sitting on May 15, also approved an enhanced ex-gratia amount of Rs 10 lakh to the next of kin under the "Major Laishram Jyotin Singh, Ashok Chakra (Posthumous) Ex-Gratia Scheme".

Following his son's martyrdom, Chingakham Bonbihari, submitted a representation to the Governor requesting suitable employment for his younger son, Chingakham Naoba Singh, under the state government by opting to forego a BSF-offered opportunity in favour of employment within Manipur to stay close to the family during this period of hardship.

The Governor-in-Council, after due consideration, found merit in the request, based on the exceptional nature of the case involving martyrdom in national service and the morale and humanitarian responsibility of the state to support families of national heroes.

The government reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to honouring the sacrifices made by brave personnel and supporting their families in times of need.

This appointment may be seen as both a gesture of gratitude and a meaningful support to the bereaved family, the release added.
