Imphal, September 22 2023:
Film Forum Manipur (FFM) chairman L Surajakanta has categorically stated that the forum will not accept the ban imposed on female film actor Soma Laishram by Kangleipak Kanba Lup (KKL) .
Addressing media persons at Manipur Press Club, here, on Friday, Surjakanta recounted that one Ngamkheingakpa claiming to be KKL secretary informed FFM on September 16 to stop Soma from taking part in a fashion show in Delhi which FFM was unaware of.
When enquired, Soma Laishram informed FFM that the event will be a North East cultural exchange programme and she will be the show stopper.
Considering that there is nothing wrong in participating in such events and FFM has no right to stop anyone, FFM suggested Soma Laishram to raise the burning issue of Manipur at the platform, if possible, in view of prevailing situation in the state.
KKL should not try to portray the event participated by Soma as an entertainment event, L Surajakanta said.
According to L Surjakanta, FFM being the apex body of film industry in Manipur has been taking responsibility to settle any issue related with the industry.
He also appealed to civil society organisations not to impose ban on any member of the forum.
