Ukhrul, September 22 2023:
Stating that Nagas in Manipur advocate peace and have so far remained neutral in the ongoing conflict, Chairman of Hill Areas Committee Diganglung Gangmei has called for dialogue among the warring communities to restore normalcy in the strife-torn State.
Speaking to this journalist, the HAC Chairman continued that every community need to stick together to solve the crisis in Manipur and take the State to the path of peace.
Saying that HAC has been working to restore normalcy in the State, Dipu Gangmei continued that peace, however, will remain elusive unless there is a dialogue among the leaders of the warring communities.
About the position of Naga in the ongoing crisis , Dipu Gangmei said that Nagas have so far remained neutral.
Stating that Manipur had witnessed ethnic violence in the past too and conflicts of any kind have to be solved through dialogue, the HAC Chairman continued that restoring normalcy without holding dialogue would be extremely difficult.
Differences between the parties in conflict have to be sorted out through dialogue, he added.
Appealing to all religious and CSO leaders to play the central role in bridging the gap between the two communities, Dipu Gangmei said that the Central and State Governments will surely extend full cooperation in any endeavour to douse the flame.
Continuing that the Government has set up a Peace Reconciliation Committee of Naga and Meitei Pangal legislators with him as the Chairman, Dipu Gangmei said that there seem to be some elements which want to disrupt the peace process.
There won't be any winner from the ongoing conflict, he reasoned and asked the leaders of the warring communities to come out and hold dialogue for the sake of the people.
