Imphal, March 29 2022:
United Kuki Liberation Front (UKLF), Government of Khulmigam, one of the signatories to the Suspension of Operation (SoO) agreement with the government, celebrated its 27th Raising Day at the Designated Nazareth Camp Muvanphoi GHQ at Khangbarol in Chandel district on Tuesday.
The celebration was attended by UKLF chairman SS Haokip, home secretary Lt Col Khupmang, vice-chairman Kt Misao, 27th Raising Day Committee chairman Col Kennedy, village chiefs and CSOs leaders from Chandel and Tengnoupal districts.
As part of the event, UKLF chairman SS Haokip hoisted the flag of the group, which was followed by singing of the outfit's anthem and presentation of guard of honour.
Later, a two-minute silence was observed as a mark of respect to the deceased members of the group.
Speaking on the occasion, UKLF chairman SS Haokip urged all concerned to continue supporting the outfit, while adding that the outfit does not discriminate anyone on the basis of religion, caste, creed or race.
UKLF was raised out of the yearning to live in peace and in unity alongside other communities of the state including Meitei, Naga, Kuki, Pangal, etc., he said.
While recounting that Congress did not invite the group for any political talk, the chairman stated that UKLF extended its support to BJP in the recent polls after the latter assured of fulfilling all its political demands.
However, Congress claimed that the outfit was campaigning for BJP, which is incorrect.
If the ruling BJP government fails to keep its promises, then the outfit will also make its own decision on the matter, he remarked.
SS Haokip then extended warm greetings to the people in connection with its Raising Day, and further offered respects to all those who sacrificed their lives for the outfit's goal, including the bereaved families.
Recalling the origin of UKLF, the chairman said that it came into being with the objective of protecting the indigenous population, during a meeting held at Palace Compound, Imphal East on March 29, 1995 and was established in areas of Chandel and Tengnoupal districts.
