Imphal, March 28 2025:
The much-anticipated documentary 'Chahi Taret Khuntakpa: The Seven Years' Devastation' is set to premiere for the first time on History TV18 on Saturday at 6 PM.
This gripping documentary, produced in association with the Government of Manipur, aims to revive the spirit of nationalism among the new generation and serve as a powerful reminder of how disunity and greed for power led to the devastation of Manipur 200 years ago.
The documentary vividly narrates the harrowing history of the Seven Years' Devastation (1819-1826), a dark chapter in Manipur's history when the Burmese invasion left the Manipur valley nearly depopulated.
The invasion resulted in the massacre of thousands and the displacement of countless Manipuris, forcing many to flee to the hills and neighbouring regions.
However, with British support, the legendary Manipur Levy was formed under the leadership of King Gambhir Singh, turning the tide of the war.
The relentless efforts of King Nara Singh and Heerachandra played a pivotal role in reclaiming Manipur's dignity and restoring peace.
The documentary highlights their extraordinary bravery and resilience in the face of immense adversity.
