In a poignant and dignified ceremony, Assam Rifles paid a heartfelt tribute to Rifleman Shatri Dhan Thapa, a 104-year-old veteran of the Assam Rifles, in his hometown of Moreh, Manipur on August 24, 2025 .
According to a release issued by the IGAR (South), the special outreach programme was marked by solemn pride and deep reverence, as the force honoured a living embodiment of courage and patriotism.
Born and raised in Moreh, Shatri Dhan Thapa's life is a shining testament to resilience and national devotion.
Serving with distinction during the Second World War as part of the 4 Assam Rifles, he displayed exceptional bravery and commitment in the line of duty.
His illustrious military career, which began in the preindependence era, concluded in 1957, leaving behind a legacy that continues to inspire generations.
In a gesture of profound respect, a senior official of Assam Rifles personally met and felicitated Thapa, acknowledging his invaluable contributions to the nation.
The moment was filled with emotion and admiration, as the veteran was presented with a token of honour, symbolising the enduring gratitude of the force and the country.
