Arts topper eyes IAS, calls for peace

Thoubal, April 25 2025: Keisham Hannah Devi, who topped the Class XII Arts stream in this year's Higher Secondary Examination conducted by the Council of Higher Secondary Education, Manipur (CoHSEM), has expressed ken desire to become an IAS officer, with the aim of serving and uplifting her community.

Hannah, born to Keisham Okendrojit, also known as Nanak, and Binadarshini Devi of Yairipok Bishnunaha Awang Leikai, is the eldest of three siblings.

Her father works as a manager at the Women Income Generation Centre (WIGC), an NGO, while her mother is a teacher at Yairipok High School.

Hannah appeared for the examination from Enlighten Knowledge Higher Secondary School, Sangakpham, and emerged as the state topper in the Arts stream scoring 479 out of 500 marks.

In an exclusive interview with The People's Chronicle at home, Hannah expressed her astonishment at securing the top position.

"I aimed to be among the rank holders, but never imagined would top the stream," she conceded.

The topper credited her achievement to the unwavering support of her parents, who constantly motivated and guided her through her academic journey.

Hannah also expressed gratitude to founder of Enlighten Knowledge Higher Secondary School P Saratchandra, whose encouragement, she said, played a crucial role in her success.

When asked about her study routine, Hannah revealed that she did not attend any private tuitions.

"I would wake up at 4:30 every morning and study before school.

Since I lived in a residential school, I continued studying until midnight," she shared.

She, however, would like to advise other students against pushing themselves to late-night studies, suggesting instead that consistency and balance are key.

Beyond academics, Hannah voiced a heartfelt plea to the authorities to resolve the ongoing unrest in the state.

"The current crisis is deeply affecting students like us," she said with concern.

"We need peace and stability to pursue our dreams" .
