Rich tributes paid to INA martyrs at Moirang

Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla attended the 81st anniversary of Flag Hoisting Day at the Indian National Army (INA) Martyrs' Memorial Complex in Moirang, Bishnupur district, on Monday.
Marking the historic occasion, Governor Bhalla paid floral tribute to the statue of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose and toured the INA museum.
Addressing the gathering, the Governor described the day as a moment of profound honour and patriotic pride, commemorating one of the most significant chapters in India's freedom movement.
He highlighted Moirang's pivotal role as the site where the INA first raised the Indian tricolour on liberated soil, a symbol of resistance and the nation s unyielding aspiration for independence.
Reflecting on the legacy of the INA, the Governor noted that its approach to achieving independence was driven by resolute action rather than negotiation.
He described the INA's brief presence in Moirang as a moment of military significance and a symbolic reawakening of India's quest for self-rule, underscoring values of courage, sacrifice and unwavering patriotism that continue to inspire generations.
The Governor expressed deep sense of patriotic pride, stating, "It is a moment of profound honour to stand on the very ground where India's national flag was first unfurled by the INA on liberated soil.
This act was not merely symbolic - it was a powerful declaration of a nation's burning desire for freedom" .
He underscored the historical importance of Moirang in India's independence struggle, noting that the INA did not fight with diplomacy, but with unwavering determination and action.
"Their courage remains a beacon of patriotism for the entire nation", the Governor remarked.
The commemorative event was also attended by Moirang MLA Thongam Shanti Singh, Lt Gen (retd) K Himalay Singh, Maj Gen (retd) JS Nanda, 57th Mountain Division GOC Maj Gen SS Kartikeya, Brig Neeraj Sharma, IG Assam Rifles (South), and commissioner M Joy Singh alongside government officials and members of the public.
The gathering paid tribute to the heroes of the INA and reaffirmed their collective commitment to the ideals they fought for.
The commemorative event organised by the INA War Museum-cum-Library in collaboration with the Department of Art and Culture also had a bike rally flagged off by 9 Sector Assam Rifles commander brigadier A Boral.
