Relay sit-in demands solution to ethnic conflict

Bishnupur, August 13 2023: A relay sit-in protest organised by United Protection Committee, Nambol with participation from 54 villages from Nambol, Oinam and Konthoujam assembly constituencies demanding resolution of the present communal conflict in the state, began at Temporary Market Shed, Nambol Bazar City Bus Parking on Sunday.

The relay sit-in protest will see protesters taking part in six-hour shift with Kha Sanjenbam villagers protesting from 11 am to 5 pm on Sunday, after which Maibam Chingning villagers will take over from 5 pm to 10 pm & and then from 10 pm to 5 am of Monday by Maibam Chingmang residents.

The protest will be held from 5 am to 5 pm at Temporary Market Shed, Nambol Bazar City Bus Parking and from 5 pm to 5 am at Nambol Bazar Hao Keithel.

During Sunday's protest, the agitators held placards and chanted slogans such as 'No to breaking of Manipur's integrity', 'No two administrations in Manipur', 'Flush out narco-terrorists', 'Implement NRC', 'Deport illegal immigrants', and 'Remove Assam Rifles' among others.

Speaking to media persons, Committee's media co-ordinator Kh Sunil stated that people of the state have been enduring severe hardships for more than threemonth since the Meetei Kuki conflict engulfed the state.

Hence, the relay sit-in protest has been organised to condemn state and central governments' failure to address the present crisis and taking actions against the aggressors despite the persistent attack from Kuki militants and burning Meetei houses, destroying properties, killing innocents, displacing thousands of people to relief camps and even raping women, he said.

Sunil further conveyed that the relay sit-in protest will go on until a solution is brought out and normalcy is restored in the state.
