Imphal, August 12 2025:
Director General of Police (DGP) Rajiv Singh on Tuesday reaffirmed that stringent action would be initiated against anyone involved in drug-related offences, whether they are civilians or police personnel, as part of its ongoing crackdown on illegal narcotics.
Speaking at the Har Ghar Tiranga bike rally organised by Manipur Police department ahead of the 79th Independence Day, the DGP asserted that the fight against drugs remains a priority not only in Manipur but across the Northeast.
Whether a common per son or a police officer, strict action will betaken against anyone found involved in drug case, he stated.

The remarks came in the wake of a recent scandal in which five police personnel, including the officer-in-charge of Imphal East commando unit Inspector Ningthoujam De-vdas, were suspended for allegedly releasing drug peddlers in exchange for a bribe of Rs 6 lakh and retaining the seized contraband.
Those suspended include SI B Debson Singh, constable Tarique Aziz, head constable Md Rakib, and Jemadar Md Amin Shah.
Debson, previously arrested in 2013 for transporting pseudoephedrine tablets worth over Rs 3 crore, had earlier been stripped of a gallantry award over the said case.
Tuesday's bike rally was flagged off from Hapta Kangjeibung by Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla, in the presence of security advisor Kuldiep Singh, chief secretary Puneet Kumar Goel, and the DGP .
A total of 1,017 riders took part, including 137 from the police, and YAS departments and 880 from 18 biker clubs from across the state.
The rally culminated at Khongjom War Memorial Complex, where the DGP distributed participation certificates.
Rajiv Singh said that the event was organised to honour those who sacrificed their lives for the country and thanked the participants for their enthusiastic support.
He reiterated that police will continue its dual focus on law and order and the fight against drugs, with no exceptions made for anyone involved in the illicit trade.
The top cop said that not only Manipur, all states of the Northeast were affected by the drug menace, and were doing their bit to battle it.
"We are very categorical and clear: strict action will be taken against any person involved in drug trade -- be it a policeman or a civilian.
This is because it concerns the youth and the future generations.
We will be absolutely ruthless in dealing with the menace.
The fight against drugs will go on irrespective of who is involved in it," he said.
