DESAM blames MU authority, teachers for row in Manipuri Department

Imphal, April 30 2024: Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) has held Manipur University authority and department teachers responsible for the problem besetting Manipuri Department.

In a release, DESAM secretary (education) Oinam Romesh contended that Manipur University authority does not work as per the standard norms but acts whimsically misinterpreting the set rules at its convenience.

As such, conflict of interest crops up between those eyeing to take undue advantage of unwanted situation and those adhering to rules.

Asking the Manipur University authority to draw a clear line to avoid recurrence of such issues, he also pointed out that formalization of syllabus and curriculum of a department and finalising specialisation of teachers should be done by the authority of Manipur University and not by students and those who have interest in applying for job in the department.

The secretary also said that as teachers are all aware of number of teachers needed for folklore, linguistic and culture under the syllabus and curriculum of Manipuri Department, the university authority should prevent disruption caused to the academic atmosphere of the department.

The unwanted incidents that occurred at the gate Manipur University vice chancellor, where students ganged up against each other was unfortunate, he denounced, while urging the MU authority not to let such incidents recur.

The vice chancellor should bear the responsibility if varsity authority remains as silent spectator on the matter, Romesh cautioned.
