Makhan voters briefed on rights, ethical practice

Senapati, March 31 2024: A three-day Integrated Communication and Outreach Programme (ICOP) cum Photo Exhibition on Systematic Voter s Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) was organised by Imphal Regional office of Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting Central Bureau of Communication (CBC) at Makhan village under Kangpokpi district on March 25 .

The programme was attended by Union Ministry of Home Affairs executive officer Bob Wijunamai as chief guest , CBC Imphal regional directdr Dr Engam Pame as president and Makhan village chief AB Kailamdinang as guest of honour.

Speaking at the pro gramme, Bob Wijunamai emphasised that every voter should understand the importance of one's voting rights and called upon the electors to exercise their right with careful understanding of antecedent of candidates to elect a good leader who can take our country forward.

On the other hand, AB Kail amdinang exhorted that in order to build a strong and developed society, all citizens need to be educated on the electoral system and cast their votes for the right leader for good governance as Dr Engam Paine elaborated that the right to vote is a Constitutional Right.

As establishing better and developed society, entails good leader and good governance, every voter should exercise their vote ethically, stressed the CBC regional director, who also informed that the photo exhibition depicting various schemes taken up by the government for the welfare of the people will continue for two more days and invited the locals and neighbouring villagers and students to visit the exhibition and get the best out of it.

Speaking as the resource person, district informatics officer Kangpokpi in-charge Maisilungbou Chawangting-duimai elaborated and en lightened the audience about ethical and informed voting, legal provisions, use of Electronic Voting Machine (EVM), Voter's Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) and voters' guide and role of presiding officers.

He further reminded that the Election Commission of India has introduced a mobile application app called C-VIGIL to enable the users report any election-related irregularities and violence promptly.

The programme was also attended by Senapati additional SP ML Kaisungbou, CRPF deputy commandant Hopeson, assistant professor Dr Thuankulung Newmai and Makhan village chairman AB Humang.

Makhan Students' Union also presented a cultural dance during the event.
