Imphal, March 25 2014:
Indian Farmers Fertilizer Cooperation Ltd (IFFO) has issued a clarion call for shooting up the production level to meet the decadal increase in human population.
Participating as Chief Guest in a one-day state level conference on "Revitalization of PACS and Protection of Agricultural Land of Manipur" held at the conference hall of Imphal Municipal Council (IMC) here on Tuesday, Dr DP Patra, General Manager, IFFO, observed that the increase in population has continuously narrowed down the size of arable land and the offshoot has made very difficult for the agrarian community to find ways and means for enhancing their production.
He said regular soil testing and using suitable fertilizer can ensure adequate yield.
Paddy fields require good manures just as good balanced diet for human bodies, he said, while stressing need for acquiring proper knowledge on right usage of fertilizer by farmers.
Dr Patra also stated that using good seeds and manures in a synchronized manner adds to output level.
Diammonium Phosphate (DAP) fertilizer suits Manipur's soil type, he pointed out, and reiterated that right usage of fertilizers in right time with right dosage naturally increases productivity.
India is a huge country that has many different soil types so seeds must be chosen to go well with the environment of a particular land or area, he explained.
Although India ranks first among the largest inorganic manufacturers in the world, the bulk of the home production is exported to foreign countries, he noted.
The conference was jointly organized by IFFO and Cooperative Management, Imphal under the sponsorship of the Oriental Women's Labour Cooperative Society Ltd, Manipur.
It was attended by a host of local farmers.
