Imphal, March 25 2014:
JD-U's claim that the Left and Secular Alliance (LSA) has collapsed has been rejected by other partners of the alliance.
They said that the exit of JD-U is like removal of a thorn from one's leg.
Speaking to media persons at CPI office this afternoon, LSA coordinator H Shanta clarified that there is no question of the alliance breaking down.
The only thing is one partner party has moved out.
Even though JD-U has moved out, CPI, CPI-M, Forward Block, RSP, JD-S, BSP, Shiv Sena and PDA are still in the alliance.
The LSA meeting held on March 19 where the JD-U president and vice-president were also present did not take any decision for the alliance partners to support JD-U's candidate in Outer Manipur P/C.Nonetheless, it was resolved that partners of the alliance may decide for themselves whether they should support the JD-U candidate or not.
The alliance could not support the JD-U candidate in Outer Manipur P/C because there was no consensus among the constituent partners, Shanta said.
Saying that LSA's common candidate Dr M Nara and some key members of the alliance have been receiving threatening SMS from mobile number +918119946838, Shanta distributed two hand copied texts of the SMS to the reporters.
Dr M Nara said that JD-U president N Tombi's allegation against him was unfair and baseless.
His (Tombi) exit has only strengthened the alliance.
There is a strong suspicion that the threatening SMS's were sent from the office of JD-U .
Moreover, he never made any formal proposal to the alliance to put a JD-U candidate.
This was one reason for the alliance not supporting the JD-U candidate, said Dr Nara.
Sending threat messages to some key members of the alliance was an act of depravity which was uncalled for.
People would know who are behind this debased act of sending threat messages and it is highly condemnable.
With regard to the threat messages, a complaint has been lodged with police, said Dr Nara.
Clarifying that JD-U's Tombi was never appointed LSA media in-charge, Dr Nara informed that the alliance has now 10 parties in tact including NCP and Social Democratic Party of India.
