Imphal, March 25 2014:
A new initiative of checking unauthorised/illegal parking in Imphal has been taken up by introducing wheel clampers for four wheelers.
DSP (Traffic) Victoria Yengkhom introduced the wheel clampers from today under the instruction of SP Dr AK Jhaljit.
A team of Imphal West TCP today put wheel clampers on four wheelers which were parked in no parking zone or parked parallel to another vehicle (double parking) in Paona Bazar and Thangal Bazar.
The vehicles which were made immobile by the instrument called wheel clamper or wheel boot were pasted a note each.
The note directed vehicle owners to go to the relevant authority.

Wheel clampers are already in use in different foreign countries and many cities of India.
In the USA, the instrument is called Denver Boot, eponym of Denver city.
In addition to unauthorised parking, there is a plan to summon vehicles owners if their vehicles are found in idle condition in contravention of traffic rules even if the owners are not present at the moment by way of pasting a note on the vehicles, informed a source.
