Banned forest products seized

Imphal, January 20 2015:
In a crackdown on smuggling of banned Forest products, troops of 24 Assam Rifles of 26 Sector AR under the aegis of HQ IGAR (South) established a vehicle check post at Sita road junction and apprehended two individuals alongwith banned Forest products on January 20 .
Informing this in a statement, PRO IGAR (S) said a suspicious vehicle, a silver coloured Maruti Van bearing Registration Number ML 05F 7121 traveling from Imphal to Moreh was stopped for checking, and it led to recovery of around 337 kgs of Orchid Roots worth Rs 13,48,000 and two mobile phones.
The apprehendees were identified as Thankholal (driver of the vehicle), aged 40 yrs, S/o Khailhul, resident of Tengnoupal, PS/PO- Tengnoupal, Chandel district and Angam Ngamson, aged 37 yrs, S/o Jilkhuthang, also resident of Tengnoupal.
The apprehendees along with the recovered items were handed over to the Forest Department, Imphal, the PRO added.
