Soraphung villagers allege 'torture' by VGs from Kanjang, Nagaland

Village Guards (VGs) from Kanjang Village, Meluri Sub-Division, under Phek district, Nagaland have been frequently torturing villagers from Soraphung under Jessami Sub-Division, Ukhrul district, alleged L Yaruingam, the village headman Soraphung.
In a press note, L.Yaruingam said the VGs from across the state have also "burnt huts, properties and encroached on the paddy fields" owned by Soraphung.
He informed that on January 16, at around 2 pm the VGs from Kanjang abducted Wehilo Mekrisuh, son of Nitso Mekrisuh and Wete Akami, son of Keziichuni Akami of Soraphung from the field after firing three rounds of bullets.
The Soraphung village headman alleged that the two were tortured the "whole night" and were left in the jungle the next day on January 17 .
L Yaruingam recalled that on May 13, 2014 at around 11 pm, two Soraphung villagers � VS Ningwon, son of VS Kekhwelo and M Vetso, son of M.Songulo were severely assaulted by the same VGs and were released only after 1 pm the next day.
The VGs also burnt down four huts, set fire to one barrel of diesel, agricultural tools, clothes, rice and money amounting to Rs.75,000 at around 12 noon in the presence of one tractor owner and the driver from Imphal, said Yaruingam.
The armed VGs also camped in the field by "hoisting red flags" in five areas and warned Soraphung villagers not to visit their fields.
Yaruingam said the villagers have asked the state authorities to look into the serious situation and take effective measures to prevent such attacks and assaults meted out to the residents of Soraphung Village.
