Chandel, January 20 2015:
In view of increasing traffic congestion along Pallel- Aimol road, the Aimol Tribe Union, Manipur (ATUM) and Aimol Student's Union Manipur (ASUM) have constructed a parking lot along the Pallel- Aimol road today, reports our correspondent.
The volunteers of the two apex bodies of Aimol tribe, with spades and shovels, constructed the parking lot on their own by filling up and expanding the roadside since morning in order to ease the congested road for vehicular movement.
While briefing media persons, S Munthuireng, president of Aimol Tribe Union, Manipur said that the construction of the parking lot was initiated with an objective to ease the congested road without any financial assistance from the State Government after it failed to fulfil their demand to evict all illegal encroachers along the road.
The president further said that the civil bodies of Aimol tribe had demanded eviction of illegal encroaching structures along Pallel- Aimol road since the past few years and the civil bodies had also imposed bandh along Imphal- Moreh road in the past besides submitting several memoranda to the Government.
However, after several assurances, the department concerned and the State Government failed to fulfil the demand till date, he lamented.
The Union president further urged the State Government and other civil bodies to evict and expand the already congested road at the earliest.
