Imphal, January 20 2015:
Governor of Manipur, Dr KK Paul on Tuesday extended warm greetings and wishes to the people of the state on the occasion of Manipur Statehood Day, which is to be celebrated on January 21 .
In a message, the Governor recalled that Manipur attained Statehood forty three years ago on January 21, 1972 and the long cherished dream of the people of the state was fulfilled.
He said that thereafter, Manipur became equal partners with other states in the country in building a modern India and along with it, came the responsibilities and opportunities.
Dr KK Paul said that that since the attainment of Statehood, new developmental avenues have been opened up and it is in the hands of people of the State to shape their destiny.
"Since attainment of Statehood, Manipur has indeed made rapid strides in the field of development and a sustained effort is being made to keep pace with the rest of the country", said the Governor.
He, however, maintained Manipur is still lagging behind and there is a need of a renewed effort for the welfare of its citizens.
The Governor further said growth and development should be based on equity where all citizens of the State irrespective of caste, creed or religion feel the sense of belonging to an egalitarian society.
Dr KK Paul exuded confidence that with Manipur's potential of human resources, the state is capable of doing wonders in the field of development by rising above narrow interests.
"Let us all work unitedly and relentlessly to make Manipur a prosperous State," the Governor urged.
