Kabui Mother's Association Manipur (KAMA) is set to demand the State Government to name the under-construction market-shed in Imphal after freedom fighter Rani Gaidinliu.
Speaking at a press conference held at Zeliangrong Union office, Paona Bazar, KAMA president Kakomlunglu Gangmei said that the association would submit a memorandum to the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister in this regard soon.
She further said that the 100th birth anniversary celebration of the freedom fighter would be held for three days from January 26 to 28 .
The formal opening function of the centenary celebration would be held at the office of Zeliangrong Union, Paona Bazar.
A group discussion on the life and contribution of Rani Gaidinliu would be the main highlight of the second day while the grand closing function would be held at the auditorium of Manipur Film Development Corporation with Chief Minister Okram Ibobi and Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam as the chief guest and president respectively.
Kakomlunglu Gangmei added that other Ministers and MLAs will also attend the function.
She said that KAMA became a registered body on August 4, 2004 and from the next year onwards the association has been observing the birth anniversary celebration of Rani Gaidinliu on January 26 every year.
Although, the association submitted memoranda to the State Government from time to time, no assurance has been translated into action till date, she added.
This year as well, Kakomlunglu Gangmei siad, they are ready to submit a memorandum to Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister to press forth various demands.
Their demands included announcement of Rani Gaidinliu's birthday as a State holiday, naming of the under-construction market-shed in Imphal after Rani Gaidinliu, erecting a giant statue of the freedom fighter at the traffic islands located in front of Raj Bhavan and Khongnang Ani Karak and construction of a memorial complex, Kakomlunglu said.
She added that Rani Gaidinliu was not only a freedom fighter of Kabui community alone but for the whole Manipur.
