Senapati, April 28 2025:
A follow-up meeting on "Clean Senapati River Campaign" chaired by Senapati deputy commissioner (DC) Mamoni Doley was held at the conference hall of the DC's office, here, on Monday.
In his address Senapati ADC CEO Adahrii Maheo stated that the initiative taken up by the district administration to protect water bodies, river in particular, under "Clean Senapati River Campaign" has been evoking positive response from the masses.
After the cleanliness drive was taken up to keep the river clean under the leadership of Senapati ADM/SDO, Rang David Kung, more than 70 structures including toilets, poultry farms, pigsties, etc., have been dismantled from along the river bank.
It is said that the drive, which covered areas in between Mt Everest College junction to DV School, will continue prevent random disposal of waste in the remaining portion of the river bed.
The district administration also conceded of facing significant pressure regarding the ban on single-use plastics, but asserted that in-spite of challenges, will be enforced in the district as part of a state-wide ban.
In his address, DC Mamoni stated that the district administration had carried out cleanliness drive for two days in the past with participation of CSOs, DLOs of various departments, students, etc.
referring to collection of tonnes of garbage from the river bed, the DC mentioned that along with launch of similar drives as and when necessary, effective measures would be adopted to effectively check disposal of garbage into the river in the future.
The meeting was called as a follow-up action and discuss steps to encourage the public join hands in sanitising the river, explained the DC, inviting suggestions and ideas how to initiate things to keep the river clean.
Addressing complaints received about heavy vehicles engaged to collect the garbage unable to access certain colonies, the DC urged all village authorities to allocate space for construction of waste collection or dumping sites in all colonies under the NREGA, particularly in areas nearby the river.
As soon as the land is acquired or allocated, construction works would be started, she said.
The DC also appealed to all the stakeholders to extend cooperation to the district administration's effort in keeping the river clean, while urging chairmen/secretaries of different colonies to take up sanitation very strictly in their own localities.
