Kakching, June 27 2025:
Sugnu MLA Kangujam Ranjit on Friday said that the current crisis in the state is neither communal nor ethnic conflict but a proxy war orchestrated by BJP, and irresponsible government run by BJP without proper knowledge of the Constitution has left the state in chaos.
He made the remark at the inauguration of a newly constructed multipurpose hall at Wangoo Laipham Chithek Leikai under Sugnu AC, which was constructed under his MLA Local Area Development Fund.
Ranjit said that though the Central leaders claim that the crisis in the state is ethnic conflict, this is a proxy war of BJP and neither a communal nor an ethnic flare-up.
This is an outcome of internal discord within BJP and running a government without proper knowledge of the Constitution, the proof being attempt by Kukis to conduct mass funeral at Torbung Bangla, Which was swiftly retracted following an instruction from union home minister Amit Shah.
The current semblance of peace is also part of Centre's strategy, he said while referring to the absence of any significant hostilities following the imposition of President's Rule.
The crisis could have been averted had the government took up appropriate legal action on the March 27, 2023 incident, and the chief minister visited the site and resolved the matter.
Instead, the government withdrew police commando from Churachandpur district, which is a crucial unit of state police in supporting the district administration in enforcing law and order.
It was also surprising that the government granted permission to carry out mass rally on May 3, 2023 despite the official visit of central government leaders.
All these show that the BJP government did not have proper knowledge of the Constitution and administration.
As a result, the BJP government has left the state in chaos, he alleged.
Ranjit further said that the current crisis will not end any time soon.
Instead of resolving the crisis, the government is hunting down the Meetei youths, who stood up to defend their homes, their community members totally ignoring the fact that those youths came out due to the total failure of state machineries in protecting public lives and properties.
He saw it coming and proposed a special legislation to protect the youths.
Unfortunately, the then government rejected the proposal, he claimed while assuring all possible help to youths, who are being targeted simply for volunteering to protect their homes and community members.
S Bony, a construction worker from Sugnu Napat, who got trapped deep inside Churachandpur when the crisis broke out and got rescued, recalled how MLA Ranjit played key role in rescuing and evacuating him and his fellow workers from an area 69 km away from Churadhanpur town after the crisis broke out.
An IDP named Malemnganba, who is living in a relief camp, also expressed his appreciation and gratitude to the MLA for his support to the IDPs.
Ranjit also felicitated workers involved in the construction of the multipurpose hall by presenting gifts.
Wangoo Development Committee president L Khelchandra, Sugnu Municipal Council caretaker chairperson Moirangthem Sharat, caretaker councillors, Kakching Khunou Municipal Council caretaker councillors from Congress party, former ward members of Wangoo and Waikhong GPs, and leaders of different civil society organisations of Sugnu AC also attended the inauguration function.
