Senapati, April 25 2025:
Residents of Rikhumai Taphou have strongly refuted the claims made in an official report published on the PHED, Senapati Division website, regarding the completion of tap water connections under the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM).
According to the PHED's website, 144 out of 150 households in the village have reportedly been provided with tap water connections, indicating a 96 per cent completion rate.
However, the villagers categorically dismissed the report, citing the absence of water pipeline connected to the incomplete reservoir built in the centre of the village, and noting that not a single household has been provided tap water connection to date.
To recall, an MoU was previously signed regarding the incomplete construction work and the laying of pipelines under the Augmentation of Rikhumai Taphou Water Supply Scheme under the JJM.
A joint meeting was held on September 10, 2024 at Senapati, attended by the Rikhumai Taphou Village Authority led by chairman PH Fuvei and secretary LS Sousa, alongside the contractor concerned D Neli and PHED officials of the Senapati Division.
During the meeting, all parties unanimously resolved to complete the pending construction and pipeline installation by December 20, 2024.The Village Authority also pledged full cooperation to facilitate the execution of the project in the interest of the local community.
Village leaders have alleged that no work has been carried out since the agreement was signed.
Speaking to the media, village chairman PH Fuvei expressed the community's shock upon discovering the misleading report posted on the PHED website.
He reiterated that the reservoir remains unfinished and that there has been no installation of pipelines or household tap connections to date.
Fuvei urged the higher authorities to address this urgent issue within the current month, warning that the villagers may be compelled to take appropriate action if the matter is not resolved promptly.
