RIMS reaches out to relief camps with free medical camps

Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal, organised nine free medical camps across various relief camps in the state, providing essential healthcare services to internally displaced persons (IDPs), according to a release from the institute.
The initiative was conducted under the aegis of the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) and the Manipur State Legal Services Authority (MSLSA).
Justice BR Gavai, Judge of the Supreme Court of India and Executive Chairman of NALSA, officially inaugurated the initiative at Moirang College Relief Camp, Bishnupur.
The event was attended by several distinguished members of the judiciary, including Chief Justice D Krishnakumar of the Manipur High Court and Supreme Court Judges KV Viswanathap, Vikram Nath, MM Sundresh, and N Kotish-war Singh, alongside Justices A Guneshwar Sharma, Ahanthem Bimol Singh, and Golmei Gaiphulsillu of the Manipur High Court.
During his address, Justice Gavai underscored the critical role of healthcare access for displaced populations and that of the legal fraternity in upholding social justice.
The MSLSA, under Chief Justice Krishnakumar's leadership, continues to provide vital legal aid to vulnerable communities, reinforcing the constitutional principles of dignity and equality.
The medical camps, staffed by a dedicated team of 150 doctors, nurses, and healthcare professionals from RIMS, offered general check-ups, consultations, free medication, and health awareness programs on hygiene and disease prevention.
According to the release, over 1,630 displaced individuals benefited from these services, with judges distributing relief materials to IDPs, as part of the medical and relief efforts which were conducted across several locations, including Manipur Trade & Expo Centre, Lamboikhongnangkhong, Imphal West; Meitei Langol Leima Khullen Leikai, Imphal West; Alternate Housing Complex (PDA), Imphal West; Man-dop Yuippham, Khurkhul Relief Camp, Imphal West; Temporary Shelter, Khabei-soi, Imphal East; Temporary Shelter, Sawombung, Imphal East; Moirang College Block A & B, Bishnupur; Rice Research Station, Khangabok, Thoubal; and Indoor Stadium, Kakching.
The camps saw active participation from legal authorities, healthcare professionals, and volunteers, underscoring a collective commitment to safeguarding healthcare rights for all.
Meanwhile, RIMS also hosted the 2nd Blood Donation Camp in observance of the 8th Foundation Day of Referees-XI Manipur.
Held at the Department of Transfusion Medicine, RIMS, under the theme "Sports for Brothers & Humanity," the event also witnessed voluntary participation from over 30 donors.
