Imphal, April 16 2025:
With the main objective of bringing justice and resolution to the nearly two years long violence in the state, the Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) is all set to launch series of mass awareness campaigns starting April 17 (Thursday).
The COCOMI also called for organising localised meetings and discussions from Thursday onwards to make aware the people about real causes of the violence and continue holding such meets till April 30 .
Appealing to the people to support its initiatives, COCOMI convener Khuraijam Athouba told media persons on Wednesday that the Government of India is yet to take up any significant step to resolve the crisis.
While the government of India is yet to translate into action proposals of the people for resolving the crisis, actions of Chin-Kuki narco-terrorists seem to have the covert support of the Centre, he alleged.
Expressing remorse over Union home minister Amit Shah citing the Manipur crisis as a clash between Meeteis and Kukis and unrelated with religion or terrorism, he said Amit Shah's statement in Parliament was not only misleading but also underscores centre's indifferent attitude and reluctance to end the crisis.
According to Athouba, mainstream media are trying to divert attention from the core issues as is evident from the reportage of Asian Age, referring to influence of China-backed insurgent groups in the ongoing violence.
The compiled report of the Asian Age is not only confusing the people of Manipur but also an attempt to deflect core issues like geo-politics, Myanmar crisis, counter insurgency, Kuki armed groups particularly foreign mercenaries groomed by the Government of India.
These reports from the mainstream media were made intentionally to sideline the real problems Manipur has been facing at present and push towards another totally unrelated angle, he argued.
While asserting that people of Manipur are eagerly awaiting end to the violence, Athouba said COCOMI has been organising awareness campaigns since the past few days to have complete understanding of the crisis.
It is imperative for the entire people of the state to understand the real issues Manipur has been facing today and accordingly COCOMI took the initiative of holding discussions with clubs, Meira Paibis, local and village leaders from Thursday onwards.
The initiatives will include meetings across various localities where community leaders will join and discuss the crisis.
COCOMI has prepared 15 resource persons for the discussions and at least 2/3 of them will join the localised meetings, he said and called upon local leaders to take responsibility for holding the meetings/discussions.
