Imphal, May 06 2013:
All Manipur Tribal Union (AMTU) strongly condemns the burning down of Silent village causing complete dismantling of 36 houses by the villagers of Seijang
village on May 3 .
AMTU president D.P Panmei said such uncivilized act is not a solution to the land dispute between two villages; instead it will invite a communal tension that will always burn in the minds of the victims.
Extension of reliefs to the victims is not the solution.
But settlement of their cases by the concerned authorities will be the only solution in the long run.
Timely intervention by the police would have averted such ugly situation, D.P Panmei lamented.
"The appeals from the Government and other organizations to the two villages to avoid the communal tension at this critical juncture is sounding like the barking of a dog behind the retreating elephant.
The Government was aware of that impending feud/incident between the two villages but connived at it and failed to intervene in time.
As a result the burning down of Silent village took place which is very unfortunate.
It is because of the failure to act in time by the Police, such unwanted incident happened.
Such incident should not be allowed to recur in future," AMTU president D.P Panmei said.
