Health Dept lists anti-Dengue measures

The Health Directorate has listed the methods to prevent dengue infection and the measures taken up by the Government to prevent outbreak of the viral disease.
In a statement, Health Director Dr Kh Sasheekumar Mangang informed that dengue is a viral disease caused by the bite of infected mosquito and the peak biting time is dawn and dusk.
Saying that the Health Department has been undertaking all necessary measures to control the outbreak of dengue such as fogging, source reduction exercise, awareness campaign and bednet impregnation exercise, Dr Sasheekumar continued that beds have been marked for dengue patients at RIMS, JNIMS and district hospitals (including CHCs as and when required).
High fever, headache, severe pain behind eyes, muscle pain, joint pain and rash are some symptoms of dengue and there is no specific treatment of dengue, he informed and added that paracetamol is preferable for fever management but self medication should be avoided.
Suggesting that wearing full sleeves and long dresses is advisable to prevent mosquito bites, Dr Sasheekumar also appealed to the people to use mosquito repellents, mosquito nets, electric vapour mats during the daytime also as Aedes mosquitos bite during daytime.
He also advised the people to discard unused tyres, broken bottles, flower vases, unused water containers and to change the water stored in uncovered containers regularly.
