Imphal, August 05 2025:
Justice Committee on Anglo-Manipuri War 1891 Martyrs and Freedom Fighters of Kangleipak chairman Joychandra Konthoujam, on Tuesday, asserted that if the President's Rule (PR) government dilutes unity of Manipur, then the blame must be shouldered by the MLAs of the state.
Speaking as a special guest at a one-day farmers' training-cum-fertiliser and seed distribution programme held at Khangshim village in Tengnoupal district, Joychandra lashed out at what he termed as the self-serving conduct of political leaders.
He said that the state had plunged into an unmanageable situation because its leaders had prioritised personal gain over patriotic responsibilities.
"The representatives, instead of acting with a national spirit, came to serve their own interests.
They pulled each other down, and the Centre took advantage and imposed PR", he claimed.

Asserting that the PR government, being a non-local government, will do nothing good for the land, he cautioned that they would return home after serving their purpose, and only the state and its people would be left to suffer.
Joychandra said that the failure of leaders to act in the interest of the state led to the imposition of PR .
If the current arrangement ends up weakening state's unity, all the MLAs will have to take responsibility, he reiterated.
He emphasised the need for sincere efforts to preserve Manipur as it was handed down by the forefathers, urging all to do whatever they can with a pure heart, however small.
Turning to the theme of the day's event, he highlighted the importance of supporting farmers in order to achieve self-reliance in food production.
He said that the state must reduce its dependence on imported food by focusing on local agriculture, forest conservation, and developing community forest reserves.
"We need to plant money-making trees on barren hills, develop community forest reserves, and fill our fields with seasonal vegetables.
This way, we can not only save money from going outside but also achieve food independence," Joychandra said.
The event was attended by Chandel & Tengnoupal district agriculture officer Sumpi Lovejoy Anal, National Food Security and Nutrition Mission nodal officer W Subhas, Agriculture department plant protectionist W Nupendra, and MoL EAM FPC CEO K Mekham Maring, among others.
Farmers at the programme received urea, black gram, and rhizobium.
They were also provided training by W Subhas and W Nupendra on cultivating black gram and other crops.
Lovejoy Anal assured that there would be no shortage of urea for Chandel and Tengnoupal districts, and urged farmers to inform the department of their needs for agricultural inputs.
The programme was organised in collaboration with the agriculture department and MoL EAM Organic Farmer Producer Company Limited, Manipur.
