TYCM demands transfer of civil works to MTDC

Imphal, April 28 2025: The Tribal Youth Council Manipur (TYCM); General Headquarters, has urged the state government to transfer all civil works of non-engineering and technical departments in the hill and tribal areas of the state to the Manipur Tribal Development Corporation Ltd (MTDC).

In a press release issued by its media and information department on Monday, TYCM said that it had submitted a representation to the chief secretary on Monday, highlighting the issue.

It pointed out that various development infrastructures in hill and tribal areas, constructed by non-engineering departments such as the health, veterinary and animal husbandry, sericulture, horticulture, tourism, and others, are currently being executed through the Manipur Development Society (MDS) instead of the MTDC.

TYCM stated that its investigation found most civil works of non-engineering departments in the hill and tribal areas are handled by the MDS.

It warned that if this continues, MTDC would become redundant and lose its purpose.

The council added that MTDC is currently dysfunctional and unable to operate effectively due to the lack of civil works being transferred to it.

It asserted that there is no need for MDS to execute all civil works in the hill and tribal areas when the MTDC exists.
