Imphal, April 26 2025:
Shiv Sena Manipur Pradesh has pointed out the contrasting responses of the Government of India to the Pahalgam terror attack and the Manipur crisis which has claimed more than 250 lives and displaced over 65,000 people.
Speaking to media persons at their Babupara office today, Shiv Sena Manipur Pradesh president M Tombi decried that the Government of India has not yet done anything concrete to compensate and resettle the displaced people, and deliver justice to the victims of the two year old crisis.
Former Governors and many top army officers have already pointed out that foreign terrorists have their hand in the Manipur violence, he said.
Apart from announcing ex-gratia of Rs 10 lakh to each of the deceased victims of Pahalgam attack and Rs 2 lakh each to the injured victims, the Government of India has adopted a tough decision to strike back hard against the terrorists who carried out the attack and this is commendable, Tombi said.
At the same time, it is extremely painful and disappointing to note that the Government of India has not yet bothered to take up any such decisive action with regard to the Manipur crisis, he said.
Tombi then pointed out that Union Home Minister Amit Shah has failed miserably to keep his promise of opening National Highways in Manipur to all sections of people with effect from March 8, 2025 .
The Government and security forces have been turning a bind eye to rampant extortion on the two National Highways of Manipur, he said.
Even though vehicles were set ablaze right in front of security personnel and even the Superintendent of Police was abused and bloodied, there have been no reports of any arrest so far, Tombi remarked.
He questioned as to why the Government of India has not yet launched any military crackdown against the Kuki narco-terrorists who have been waging war against Meiteis for almost two years, Shiv Sena Manipur strongly condemns the Pahalgam terror attack and fully supports the strong counter-terrorism measures taken up by the Government of India, he said.
He then expressed keen desire for the Government of India to take similar strong actions against Kuki narco-terrorists in Manipur.
All citizens of India have the right to move freely in any part of the country but a large section of the people of Manipur are being denied access to National Highways, he pointed out.
It is the responsibility of the Centre and the State Government to neutralise all obstacles and blockades on National Highways, he asserted.
He warned that the people of Manipur may be forced to take a collective decision if the Government of India continues with one-sided disarmament.
Both Koubru and Thangjing are among the most sacred sites to the Meitei people and these sacred sites are there since time immemorial, Tombi said.
But a section of people have been preventing the Meitei people from going to these sacred sites for offering prayers.
Again it is the duty of the Government to see that the Meitei people can go freely on pilgrimage to both Mount Koubru and Mount Thangjing, he asserted.
