Nambol, May 21 2026:
Expressing anguish over the prolonged violence in Manipur that has continued for more than three years, students of Bethel English School, Nambol staged a sit-in protest today at the school gate, calling for justice, accountability and restoration of peace in the State.
The protest was organised with the objective of encouraging students and youths to actively participate in the broader movement aimed at safeguarding the future of the State amid the continuing unrest.
The demonstration formed part of the ongoing phase-wise sit-in protests being organised at various educational institutions across Manipur since the first week of May.
During the protest, the students expressed strong resentment over several recent incidents, including the bomb attack at Tronglaobi that claimed the lives of two children, the killing of three civilians allegedly in firing by personnel of the Central Reserve Police Force during protests that followed the incident, the ambush at TM Kasom Khullen allegedly carried out by Kuki militants, the attack at Kamjong, and the continuing violence and killings in different parts of the State.
The protesting students demanded action against security personnel allegedly involved in civilian killings and called for the withdrawal of Central security forces which, they alleged, had failed to protect the lives and properties of the people.
They also urged the Government to break its silence and take concrete steps to deliver justice and restore normalcy.
Students participating in the protest held placards bearing various slogans such as "Let us administer our State ourselves", "Let us live independently", "Stop State terrorism", and "Stop proxy war", among others, reflecting their anger and frustration over the prevailing situation in the State.
