Imphal, May 10 2025:
United Committee Manipur (UCM) president YK Dhiren has urged for completion of the fencing works along the Indo-Myanmar border at the earliest to safeguard the state's territory.
He made the statement as the chief guest at the inauguration of UCM Lamlai Unit's office at Lamlai Keithel on Saturday.
Dhiren continued that BRO-BRTF, which is in charge of fencing the border, should understand the sentiments of the people and expedite the works.
"It is the responsibility of each one of us to uphold the territorial integrity, unity and idea of Manipur," he said adding that to solve all issues concerning the border fencing, UCM along with representatives of Surveyor General of India, Manipur Government and BRO-BRTF had visited the border areas along with local villagers and closely observed the situation.
He maintained that after Manipur became part of India, it has been India's responsibility to protect Manipur.
However, India has failed to stop the influx of illegal migrants and cross border terrorism in Manipur, which has led to loss of many lives and the subsequent crisis the state is currently facing, he remarked.
The inaugural function was attended by UCM Lamlai Unit chairman Haobam Shitajlit and UCM secretary general Nahakpam Shanta as president and guest of honour, along with UCM secretary organisation and finance S Brojen.
On the other hand, as part of its ongoing mass vaccination programme, UCM organised an anti-rabies vaccination programme at Ima Takyel Lairembi community hall in Takyel Khongbal Mayai Leikai on May 9 .
The programme was organised under the aegis Directorate of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry, Manipur and District Veterinary Officer, Imphal West by Macha Ibemma Nupi Kanglup, Takyel Khongbal and Takyel United Progressive Organisation (TUPO).
The event was attended by a mobile veterinary unite (MVU) Imphal West team led by Dr Phuritsangbam Gitanjali of District Veterinary Office, Imphal West.
UCM secretary organisation Dipanjit Ningthoujam and secretary finance S Brojen also attended the programme, wherein around 102 cats and dogs were vaccinated.
