State's trade bodies to join nationwide strike today

Coordinating Body of Trade Unions (CBTU), Manipur is all set to join the nationwide strike on Wednesday being called by 11 central trade unions against handing over of nation's resources and public sector undertakings to corporate houses.
According to CBTU, Manipur chairman L Sotinkumar, around 40 trade unions, associations and federations will support the nationwide strike in Manipur.
He outlined the resolution of the ongoing conflict and the restoration of free movement along na tional highways as the main demands of the state.
"While employees of BSNL, postal service (India Post) and bank employees will attend their respective offices, they will stage protest in front of their work places," he announced, adding that ASHA, Anganwadi and Mid-Day Meal workers would also support the strike in the state.
Regarding the nationwide strike, L Sotinkumar said it is being called against the government's pro-corporate policies, recent labour law reforms and privatisation of public sector institution.
The main demands of the nationwide strike include levying 4 percent wealth tax from billionaires, hike corporate tax and ensure legal guarantee for minimum support price, he added.
On the other hand, Manipur Government Services Federation (MGSF) said that government employees under the federation will join the nationwide strike on Wednesday by staging symbolic protest.
Announcing their participation in the nationwide strike during a press conference at Manipur Press Club Tuesday, MGSF working president L Sharat told media persons Tuesday that a nationwide strike is being called on Wednesday against the government's policies.
"The government has enacted many anti-people and anti-employees policies since the past few years, benefiting only corporates and big businessmen through neo-liberal policies and the strike has been called against these policies," he declared.
According to L Sharat, the nationwide strike is being called by different trade unions and federations including All Federation of Central Government Services, All India State Government Services Federation, Banking Federation of India and others.
"Even bandh has been called in some states as part of the strike but there will be no such intense protests in the state in view of the prevailing unrest situation," he said, adding that symbolic protests will be staged in the state and the same had already been intimated to national federation and union.
He appealed to departmental associations and MSPU branches to fake part in the protest on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, AITUEC Task Committee has decided to support the strike as per a resolution adopted during a meeting held Monday at Thanga Lawai.
In a similar response, Silchar Division Insurance Employees' Association, Imphal and Manipur Barber Association also announced their decision to support the strike.
Roadside Vendors' Welfare Association, Khwairamband Keithel, All Manipur Road Transport Motor Workers' Union, Shop and Establishment Employment Union, Nambol Keithel Vendors' Union and Thoubal District Coordinating Body of Trade Union also pledged to support the strike and stage a sit-in-protest on Wednesday.
