Rape accused surrenders, remanded to police custody

Special Judge (POCSO), Imphal East on Tuesday remanded a man arrested by Women PS Imphal East under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO) to police custody for three days.
The arrested man has been identified as Khullakpam Jayed alias Jaiz (28) s/o Md Basha Mali of Naharup Panggong Makhong Thangbijao.
According to the report sub mitted to the court by the investigation officer (IO) of the case, on July 13 last year around 3pm, the rape survivor's father hied a report to the OC of Imphal East Women police station, stating that Khullakpam Jayed kidnapped his 16-year-old daughter from near Hangbijao Waiting Shed in Naharup Panggong Makhong Thangbijao at about 10.30 am on July 12.Based on the report, the police station listed a case (General Diary entry) and conducted an inquiry.
On July 14, a reliable input about the victim's presence in Naharup Panggong area was received and as such, a team of the PS rushed to the location and rescued the victim from the residence of one Md Binod (48) s/o Md Abdul Bariq of Naharup Panggong Makhong Thangbijao.
However, Khullakpam Jayed had already fled from the location.
The survivor conveyed to the police that after Jayed kidnapped her, he took her to a house in Phou-bakchao area and sexually assaulted her there.
The Imphal East Women PS then registered a case and launched an investigation.
During the course of the investigation, accused Jayed surrendered himself to the PS on February 6, and was arrested.
During interrogation, Jayed confessed to the crime.
As such, the police made a prayer to the court for remanding the accused to police custody for three days for further interrogation.
The court accepted the prayer.
