SATHOULUP tour to Cachar, Martala concludes

After completing six days' literature tour to Cachar and Tripura, a 22-member delegation of Sahitya Thoupang Lup (SATHOULUP) returned here on Sunday.
Regarding the tour, Sahitya Akademi awardee and SATHOULUP advisor Saratchand Thiyam told media persons as literature and culture play crucial role in developing the identity of a unified Manipur, the tour was conducted with main objective of preserving language, literature and culture of the land.
He also thanked Meeteis settling in Cachar (Assam) and Agartala (Tripura) for according warm welcome to the SATHOULUP delegation.
According to Saratchand, the literature tour conducted in connection with 20th birth anniversary of SATHOULUP had the delegation participating at the Barak Cultural Festival - 2024 jointly organ ised by Barak Museum & Library, Bantarapur, Cachar and Manipuri Cultural Forum, Assam on March 26.As part of the festival an international seminar on 'Present status of Manipuri language, literature & culture' was held with the participation of prominent personalities including associate professor Dr Chirom Rajketan of Manipur University, Dr Wahengbam Kumari Chanu and Myanmarese Meetei Ph Chandrakumar Sharma.
They presented different papers on language, literature and culture of Manipur, he added.
On the fifth day of the tour on March 28, the delegation offered prayers at the sacred sites of Lainingthou Puthiba and Radhamandap in Agartala while Ph Chandrakumar Sharma donated 'Pe', Kan-glasha and 'Sembung'.
The team also donated Rs 5,000 for construction of Lainingthou Puthiba Shanglen.
On the same day, a Literature Festival-2024 was organised jointly by SATHOULUP and Manipuri Sahitya Parishad, Tripura at the auditorium of Sahitya Akademi, Agartala followed by a poets' meet with Thangjam Rathindra as moderator and around 30 poets from Assam, Manipur and Tripura presenting their poems.
