Congress leaders meet Sonia, Kharge

With Parliament slated to discuss no confidence motion against the Modi government in a bid to draw a statement on the current crisis in Manipur from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Congress leaders led by Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president K Meghachandra and former chief minister O Ibobi met party leaders Sonia Gandhi and Malikarjun Kharge, and placed a detailed report on the current humanitarian crisis, on Monday.
The MPCC delegation also included MLAs K Ranjit and Th Lokeshwar.
The meeting at the chamber of Sonia Gandhi's office at Parliament House also had some key leaders of AICC.
Speaking to The People's Chronicle about the meeting, MLA K Ranjit informed that the MPCC delegation presented a detailed report on the present crisis in the state.
They explained to the party leaders on root cause of the crisis, how it started and how it can be controlled in order to restore peace and normalcy in the state, he said.
The MLA further said that they also tried to get an appointment to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi to submit a memorandum but were denied.
They have approached the PM and other central government leaders on multiple occasions but every time, their proposal was declined, he said.
With the opposition moving the no confidence motion, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be forced to make his statement in the parliament.
In such situation, the delegation met the Congress leaders to acquaint them with the facts and ground realities in the state, he added.
Ranjit further said that the humanitarian crisis in Manipur has become an international issue and it is unfortunate that the Prime Minister chose to remain silent on the crisis even after three months have crossed.
