Snatched arms recovered, gunfights continue

A combined team of 27 Assam Rifles, ITBP and Churachandpur police on Monday recovered arms and ammunition snatched from security forces from Lanja-Khodang area in Churachandpur.
According to police, after receiving specific information that large numbers of arms and ammunition snatched from security forces following the ethnic violence in the state are in Khodang area in Churachandpur, the combined team conducted search operation in Lanja-Khodang area from 8 am till 2 pm of Monday.
During the operation, the combined team managed to recover two 303 rifles, one 51mm mortar, one tear gas gun, 17 smoke candle, three CM magazines, 10 teargas shells, nine teargas (grenades), 332 rounds of rubber bullets, four 12 bore rifles and one muzzle loaded rifle.
The recovered arms and ammunitions have been handed over to Churachandpur police station for necessary steps.
Meanwhile, sporadic incidents of firing were reported from different parts of the state as search operations continued to recover arms looted from police armouries.
A release issued by Manipur police control room informed that exchange of fire took place at Mualngat, Terakhongsangbi, Gothol, Pholjang and Kwakta Ward No.8 on Monday.
Search operations were also conducted in the adjoining areas by security forces leading to recovery of nine firearms.
Meanwhile, a person was arrested from Chassad Avenue, Checkon while he was stealing from an abandoned house.
The arrested person has been remanded to judicial custody, it added.
Informing that 843 people were detained in 122 checkpoints in different districts of Manipur (both in the hill and the valley), it further added that movement of 260 vehicles on NH-37 and 310 vehicles on NH-2 with essential items have been ensured.
