Imphal, January 29 2026:
The All Inpui Students' Union (AISU), Inpui Naga Women's Union (INWU), and Inpui Naga Youth Organisation (INYO) have accused the United Naga Council (UNC) of 'ceding Inpui Naga land to Kuki interests' .
In a letter addressed to the president of the UNC, the Inpui Naga organisations expressed both dismay and astonishment at the joint statement issued by the UNC and Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM) on January 27, 2026, regarding an alleged arson incident in a place called K Songlung, which they contend does not exist.
The organisations sought clarification from the UNC regarding this joint statement with KIM .
They said that no village or settlement by the name of K Songlung exists in the area, nor is it recognized in Government records.
Furthermore, they stated that the "site in question comprises merely two farm houses constructed in 2017 on Inpui land, specifically in the Tamphaimon area, lacking historical, customary or administrative recognition as a village" .
Stating that the UNC's joint statement with KIM has caused confusion and misinterpretation, particularly on sensitive issues regarding land and settlement status, these organisations stressed the importance of clarity, factual accuracy, and mutual consultation when addressing such matters.
Emphasising that these steps are crucial for preserving unity, trust, and peaceful coexistence among communities, the organisations urged the UNC to handle matters related to land and rights with due seriousness in the future.
"In this regard, we seek detailed clarification from the UNC office regarding the joint statement with KIM on January 27, 2026, specifically on the recognition of K Songlung as a Kuki village and the rationale behind legitimising Kuki claims over Naga land and rights without consulting the tribe concerned and the legitimate land owner," the Inpui organisations urged.
