Imphal, September 24 2025:
The Joint Action Committee (JAC) formed in connection with the death of Chingsubam ongbi Manju at the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) has submitted a four-point charter of demands to the institute Director.
The JAC's demands include public disclosure of the enquiry report of the death within a stipulated time frame, strict action against the doctors involved in the case, adequate compensation for the victim's family, particularly for the welfare of her newborn child and no registration of an FIR or counter-FIR related to the incident that occurred on September 21, 2025 .
Addressing the media at Manipur Press Club, JAC co-convenor Chingshubam Ingenthaba stated that Manju underwent two surgeries at RIMS.
He mentioned that Manju, who was admitted on September 16, had been regularly consulting Dr Ch Pritam since her pregnancy.
Manju gave birth to a baby girl on September 20, but unfortunately, she underwent another surgery post-delivery due to severe bleeding complications, he said.
He stated that the first surgery for the delivery was performed by Dr Sushila, while the second surgery, due to complications, was conducted by Dr Pritam.
The second surgery was performed to remove the womb, but prior to that, Manju had breastfed her baby at the ward, he said and added that Manju died in the wee hours of September 21 around 3.30.Saying that they visited the hospital to discuss Manju's death with the doctors and met Dr Pritam, Dr Sushila, and Dr Ajit at the ICU ward, he added that the doctors informed them that there were no complications during the surgery.
According to him, Dr Pritam stated that the surgery itself was issue-free, but potential issues with anaesthesia couldn't be ruled out.
Saying that Dr Pritam called the Medical Superintendent of RIMS when they sought a consultation with the anesthesiologist concerned, he added that the talks with the doctors didn't yield any result.
He said that some members of the patient parties assaulted the doctor and vandalised the hospital properties out of frustration and the same was regrettable.
Saying that the JAC representatives met the RIMS Director on September 21, who assured them of a thorough investigation and action against the doctors if any lapses were found, he, however, expressed disappointment with the RIMS Director's attitude during the meeting, noting that he seemed unconcerned about the victim's family.
He said that the RIMS authority has sent a written assurance about the initiation of an enquiry by an internal committee to the JAC .
