JAC resolves not to claim body of Kadir

The Joint Action Committee (JAC) formed in response to the killing of Chesam Abdul Kadir has resolved not to claim the body or engage in talks with the Government if all those involved in the murder are not arrested and penalised within 24 hours.
Notably, the body of Abdul Kadir (29), a resident of Paobitek Mayai Leikai who had gone missing on the night of June 10, was discovered on June 17 morning buried along the banks of the Nambul River at Samurou Makha Leikai Maning area.
So far nine suspects have been arrested in connection with the case but the main accused Longjam Khaba is still at large.
Speaking to the media in front of Raj Bhavan today, JAC co-convenor Thongkhongmayum Muhibur Rahman stated that they, accompanied by Wangoi AC MLA Khuraijam Loken, have submitted a memorandum to Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla today outlining a charter of demands.
Saying that the Governor assured them that all those involved in the killing would be arrested, he added that they would neither claim the body nor engage in any dialogue with the Government if the assurance is not fulfilled within 24 hours.
He also said that they would begin protesting in coordination with various civil society organizations if those involved in killing Abdul Kadir are not arrested within 24 hours.
MLA Khuraijam Loken, who accompanied the JAC members said that the killing of Abdul Kadir was an unfortunate incident, as such cases could create misunderstanding among communities.
