'Kukiland is imaginary'

Imphal, June 18 2025:
Calling "Kukiland" imaginary, the Foothills Naga Coordination Committee (FNCC) has warned that any attempt to relocate camps of Kuki militant groups under the Suspension of Operation (SoO) pact in Naga-inhabited areas could lead to serious consequences.
The FNCC's statement comes just days after reports emerged that the Kuki-Zo groups and the Ministry of Home Affairs had reached an agreement to shut down and relocate seven SoO camps situated near Meitei areas.
The FNCC, in a strongly worded press release, said that the existing camps of SoO groups located in close proximity to Naga areas must also be dismantled without delay to prevent further unrest.
Referring to the ongoing crisis in Manipur, the Naga group asserted that any attempt to relocate SoO camps into Naga areas will be met with fierce resistance and may result in another May 3, 2023 like situation.
FNCC said that the alleged ongoing encroachment and forceful occupation of Naga ancestral lands under the false narrative of imagined Kukiland is nothing short of aggression.
Stating that any attempt to seize their land constitutes a direct provocation and a declaration of hostility, the FNCC added that such actions show blatant disregard for the enduring history of the Naga people and amount to a reckless invitation for violence.
It also said that alleged unprovoked attacks on Naga villages including Longsai, Kaiphundeijang, Nungnang, Thangbuk, Leimanei, Tingpui, Satang Naga area, Yaingangpokpi, Lungwiram, Kazanga, Konsakhul and Tumoyon Khullen among others cannot and will not be tolerated.
When Naga villages are attacked, Kuki militants and their armed volunteers are mobilized en masse, yet the narrative is swiftly distorted to downplay these incidents as mere local disputes, the FNCC said, adding that this strategy is clearly aimed at suppressing a united Naga response.
FNCC went on to allege that the persistent and systematic land grabbing in Kamjong, Tengnoupal, Chandel, Kangpokpi, Noney and even in Senapati district exposes a calculated Kuki expansionist agenda aimed at undermining the territorial integrity, identity and existence of the Naga people.
Saying that they are now vigilant and resolute, the Naga group asserted that any future aggression will be met with an unwavering iron hand.
If the Kuki group truly desires peaceful coexistence it must pay due respect to the history of Manipur and refrain from provoking the Naga people, the FNCC said and concluded that any further attempt to grab Nagas' land will come at a heavy price.
