Rape and murder case of student : Five more days police remand for accused

An accused person in the murder after rape case of a student on Nov 9 in Thoubal district, Thiyam Sureshkumar (21), has been remanded to five more days police custody after he was produced before the court of CJM, Thoubal for the second time today amidst tight security arrangement.
Meanwhile, furious mob led by students of Chaoyaima Hr Sec School students and people of the area under the aegis of the JAC stormed the Court premises today raising slogans demanding severest punishment for the accused.
Six girl students including the younger sister of the victim and a police commando sustained injuries when police resorted to firing tear gas, rubber bullets and smoke bombs to control the agitating mob.

The mob increased when people also came to learn that another murder accused, who allegedly murdered his wife in March this year, was also to be produced before the Court today.
The agitating people also shouted slogans in front of the Thoubal SP office gate which is located near the CJM Court.
Police resorted to firing smoke bombs and tear gas shells from the SP office premises when the mob refused to retreat until 2 pm today.
In the melee, six girl students were injured.
Among them, two students H Sharmila (15), a class X student of New Public Hr Sec School and Th Sushila (14) a class IX student of the same school were referred to RIMS hospital as their conditions are said to be a little serious.
A police commando, T Jeet, was also reportedly hit by a slingshot at the forehead.
The front windshield of the SDPO's Gypsy was also damaged.
The agitation also affected movement on the National Highway for about more than an hour.
The Court of CJM remanded the accused to five more days in police custody today.
Despite the assurance given by the CM, the JAC formed in connection with the death of the girl, has taken a firm stand to continue with the democratic agitation until the assurance to give befitting punishment to the culprit is translated into action.
