Action committee seeks befitting punishment for rapist

Action committee formed in connection with the rape of 13-year-old from Poumai Colony, Imphal has demanded the concerned authorities to deny bail to the culprit but to reward him with befitting punishments.
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club today, L Memcha, general secretary of the Action Committee said that if the accused S.Ngoupuni alias Ngaopuni (65) but presently staying at Poumai Colony, Imphal is given bail, then the Action Committee would launch severe forms of agitation to seek justice.
It may be mentioned here that the accused Ngoupuni had raped the 13-year-old minor girl on April 17, 2014 around 12 noon, the day when people were busy casting their votes in the 16th Lok Sabha elections.
The victim was taken away by Nagoupuni in a Maruti car on the pretext going for voting (proxy).
But instead, the minor girl was taken to a secluded place at the foothill of Koirengei and raped her.
On April 19, both the accused as well as the victim were examined by the forensic experts and subsequently framed a charge sheets by the concerned police.
