Properties worth several lakhs have been destroyed when a house was ravaged by an inferno at Singjamei Chingamakha Maisnam Leikai at around 7 pm today.
According to information culled from the spot, the devastating fire broke out from a carpentry workshop opened in an outhouse of retired PWD EE Soram Kanhai (70) .
First people of the neighbourhood heard the sound of a blast.
The next moment, a strong fire was seen raging.
It is suspected that the sound was caused by the explosion of an LPG cylinder.
The carpentry house is double-storeyed.
While the ground floor is used for storing timber, carpenters live on the first floor.
Fire tenders of Manipur Fire Service struggled hard to control the raging fire.
Even Fire Services Director Kh Chandramani came to the spot and supervised the rescue operation.
The carpentry shop was opened by Soram (O) Hemolata.
Even as properties worth several lakh have been destroyed there was no human casualty.
